Comic Workshop Inspires Visual Storytelling at PIESS
This week, intermediate and secondary students at PIESS had the exciting opportunity to participate in a two-part Comic Workshop designed to spark creativity and develop visual storytelling skills.
Leading the workshop was Arsheya Seraji, a talented young graphic artist from North Vancouver. Students were inspired by his work and learned firsthand about the creative process behind comic art. You can check out his incredible portfolio !
During the two-day workshop, students were challenged to create a one-panel comic that included a character, an action, a setting and one piece of dialogue. On Day Two, they explored the Three-Act story structure, establishing the “set up,” confrontation and resolution. Students had a lot of fun, expressing pride in their short but impactful narratives.
This engaging workshop series was made possible through the support of Jenny Morton and the Pender Island Public Library. While the library has traditionally hosted summer workshops, this year Jenny aimed to reach even more students by bringing the experience directly to PIESS.
We are grateful to her for this enriching opportunity and look forward to seeing more student-created comics in the future!
